Michauville Kennel Bernese mountain dogs

About our kennels

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a wonderful dog. If you are reading these lines, it means you agree with me and want to know more about this magnificent breed, maybe even adopt one.

I breed Bernese Mountain Dogs for two major reasons: I love animals and I like the challenge of being able to contribute to the improvement of this breed. I live in the countryside so I have the opportunity to be surrounded by animals. I worked for a veterinarian for a few years, which allowed me to get to know the animals better on many different aspects. I also studied genetics, diseases, conformation, movement and obedience.

Our standard

We put a lot of effort into recruiting the best subjects for the reproduction. We have imported several dogs so far from the United States, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, Italy and Poland. All of our lines include several international champions and world champions. We have also produced a few champions and do shows occasionally but it's not our priority and we prefer to be at home with our dogs to let them run and play. It's not enough to be champion in conformation (beauty), you also have to have a genetics free from health problems, hence our priority and we know that our dogs meets breed standards.

A good breeder will seek to reproduce healthy subjects and will know his lines to the bottom. Be sure to ask to see ALL the papers of your future puppy's parents. A breeder who has the health of his puppies at heart will not sell puppies from parents who do not not meet the strictest breeding criteria.

Remember that even with a problem-free dog, there are still possibilities that your puppy will have problems so why not put all the chances on your side side by taking parents who have no problems.

We are constantly looking for exceptional dogs and we will not hesitate to invest to find the best lines possible no matter where they are at around the world with the primary goal of producing the best dogs possible. We we do not produce any dogs from parents or grandparents with close family ties (inbreeding). This emphasizes the good sides of a lineage but also the bad therefore this can contribute to accentuating the genetic flaws of a line. That is why after so many years in the world of breeding we continue to believe that we should not mixing bloodlines too closely and that's why we constantly go for new blood.

We are at our 9th generation of dogs and continue to emphasize on the quality of the puppies we produce. We are working to keep the big bernese mountain dog. Too many Bernese Mountain Dogs no longer resemble the Swiss Bernese Mountain Dog which originally was a big dog. A Bernese Mountain Dog must be strong and be big-boned. We have at over the years met passionate breeders like us who have the same goals and with whom we have collaborated on the same goal of always and constantly improving this wonderful breed.
